We are about to enter the first new moon of the new year on January 21st, 2023. New moons are always potent times to set your new year intentions into action, but particularly the first new moon of the year. And being Winter, we have a short time of rest, before the activity of Spring and Summer are upon us.
Let your Yoga practice keep you focused on your intention this year, and help you to see it through.
“Yoga is the ability to direct the mind exclusively toward an object and sustain that direction without any distractions.”
T.K.V Desikachar’s translation of Yoga Sutra 1.2
Some of us have really busy lives, so below I suggest some simple yoga practices to help you stay focused on your intentions for 2023:
*Turn off your devices for some hours per day
*Try sitting in silence for 10-20 minutes at least 3x per week
*Take a walking meditation
*Join a yoga session and/or meditation session whenever possible
*Just get out into nature
All of these are forms of yoga that can keep you focused. The next piece of the Yoga Sutras says, when the mind is free of the chatter, the seer will abide in their own true self. This means, you will see what’s really important, and what is not important. Now, remind yourself of your new years intentions. Which ones will you take action on during this New Moon of your New Year 2023?
